What We Do

The Store - Homelessness Project - Helping LOCAL people for 10 years...

How we started and what we do: "The Store," already in existence, became a registered charity in 2005. It was initially founded by former Torridge Poverty Action Group administrator and street worker, Joe Buckingham, assisted by Pauline Ravenscroft and Steve Toms of "The Storehouse Church," and provided around 70 free emergency food bags weekly, together with free furniture, household goods, free removals, and many other services. "The Store," was open to clients 24/7.

In our busiest years or operation, our volunteers dealt with more than 3000 cases of need annually. Since the very welcome formation of "Harbour Charity" and "The Foodbank" we now concentrate mostly on providing free furniture and household goods to needy families and individuals. However, in addition to this, and with the help of volunteers from a number of local churches, we also organise and fund the Bideford Baptist Church "Cornerstone" free meal outreach every Sunday evening.

How you can help: Financial donations can be made by cheque payable to The Store please, and should be addresses to: 2A Pitt Lane, Bideford, EX39 3JA.

In addition, donations of furniture, household goods, non-perishable food items, tents, and sleeping bags can be delivered to our warehouse through the gateway opposite Myrtle Grove at: The Old Telecom Depot, Pitt Lane, Bideford.

We are open for deliveries on Tuesdays 11am-12. Alternativelty, please make an appointment to come at another time, by phoning 07936 571054 between 9am and 5pm monday to friday.

"The Store," is a Christian charity operating throughout the Torridge and North Devon area.
